MEET THE DIRECTOR OF BANDS
Brittney N. Lynn
Brittney N. Lynn received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Frostburg State University in 2009 and her Masters of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida in 2016. She holds her certification in Music PreK-12, Theatre 7-12, and her National Board Certification for Music-Ages 11-18+: Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood-Band. She is currently pursing her Administrative I Certification through Johns Hopkins University.
Ms. Lynn is currently in her third year as Director of Bands at Chopticon High School in Morganza, MD in St. Mary’s County where she leads the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Pit Orchestra, and the Showband of Southern Maryland Marching Band. She previously taught middle school band at Stevensville Middle School in Stevensville, MD in Queen Anne’s County from 2011-2016. Ms. Lynn’s concert bands, at both the middle school and high school, have continuously received excellent and superior ratings. Most recently, the Showband of Southern Maryland won the titles of 2018 USBands II Open Maryland State and Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions.
Ms. Lynn was previously on staff at the Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps. She has previously taught marching band at Lake Forest High School in Felton, Delaware; Kent Island High School, Stevensville, MD; and Queen Anne's County High School in Centreville, MD. She has been a performer, staff member, and educator of marching band and drum corps for 18 years.
Besides being a band director and teaching the marching arts, Ms. Lynn is an active performer on the Eastern Shore, Washington, D.C. and through-out the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. She has recently performed with Helen Hayes recipient Pointless Theatre in Washington, D.C.; the World Champion Empire Statesmen Drum and Bugle Corps in Rochester, NY; Easton High School Drama Dept. in Easton, MD; Church Hill Theatre in Church Hill, MD; and is a veteran member of Fusion Core Drum and Bugle Corps in Northern New Jersey. She performs locally as a freelance trombonist/low brass player.
Ms. Lynn is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA), Maryland Band Directors Association (MBDA), Maryland Marching Band Association (MMBA), Women Band Directors International (WBDI), Maryland Arts Alumni, Maryland State Education Association (MSEA), National Education Association (NEA), and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women (SAI). Ms. Lynn was nominated for QACPS Teacher of the Year in 2013 and is a 2013 recipient of the QACPS Difference Maker Award. She is a former member of the Eastern Shore Band Directors Association (ESBDA) where she was Secretary from 2014-2016.
When she is not teaching, Ms. Lynn enjoys reading, attending live performances, spending time with her family and the family pets: Diva, Gary, Gracie, Teddy, and Teenie.
